Labyrinth Walk for the Lenten Journey scheduled for March 16, 2008
Walking in circles can lead to nowhere but walkers who walk what is called a "labyrinth" find that this enhances their spiritual or prayer life. It's a time-honored tradition in European cathedrals and locally. There are two labyrinths at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes. On Sunday, March 16 at 1:30 pm, there will be a labyrinth and meditation talk and walk inside the parish hall for those who wish to know more about this form of worship.
Mary Van House, a certified labyrinth facilitator, and speaker on
their origins, forms, and prayers will present an introduction to labyrinths
entitled "Why Are Those People Walking in Circles?" After the 30
minute talk, participants may take the opportunity to walk the indoor
labyrinth until 4 pm.
St. Peter's is home to a stone and grass labyrinth in their
historic church yard where people can walk at anytime, and an indoor
30 ft. diameter circular painted canvas labyrinth indoors which can be set-up
and used when needed. The canvas labyrinth is a replica of the design laid in
the floor of Chartres Cathedral in 1220 and was painted by members of the
parish in 1995.
The event on March 16 is presented by Seekers and St. Peter's
Church. The Seekers ministry, as presented in their shop inside the parish
hall at St. Peter's, is designed to provide resources for spiritual growth,
knowledge and inspiration for people of all faiths through outreach
programs such as this labyrinth walk. Net proceeds from the sale of
hand-crafted and fair-trade spiritual gift items and books are donated to
those in need. Visit www.seekerslewes.com for hours and information about this
ministry, or call 645-9916.
