Healing through Prayer

On Thursday evening, July 2nd, from 7 to 8:30 pm, The Reverend Jeffrey A. Ross will discuss how Christians through the century have relied on prayer to aid in healing. Often when we ask to get well, we focus on repairing the physical self.  Fr. Ross will delve into spiritual healing and discuss methods and practices that can assist one in renewing and refreshing the soul.  His talk will include a brief healing liturgy to explore how community prayer can strengthen one’s being.  This free talk will be held in the parish hall of St. Peter’ Episcopal Church in Lewes, De.  Ice cream and fellowship will follow.

Fr. Ross served as a counselor in various agencies in Pennsylvania and Delaware prior to his calling to the priesthood.  He has a Bachelors in Psychology, and a Masters in Pastoral Counseling in addition to his Masters of Divinity.  Prior to his current position as Rector at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, he served at various churches, ministering to those who were seeking both physical and spiritual wellness.

July 9th

Lifelines - Passages into Spirituality

“How do you pack for a soul
on a journey since youth”

This opening line from Marie Sahwell’s poem Moving to Quakerism is just one of many poems and lines of prose that will be explored and discussed on Thursday evening, July 9th from 7 to 8:30 pm. Dr. Aimee Wiest will invite you to reach out, grasp a concept, and pull oneself to safe passage from daily problems and life issues.

Dr. Wiest has taught English and creative writing both as a high school teacher and a college professor.  She was an English professor at the College of Notre Dame, the University of Maryland and Anne Arundel Community College . Currently, Dr. Wiest is a part-time professor of literature at Delaware State University .  In the past few years she has also served as a lay educator at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church teaching various courses in poetry.  She has explored many different poetry methods and traditions from the vast cultures around the world.

Poetry from many faith traditions, philosophers and poets both ancient and new will be read and discussed.  Participants will reflect on how these lines reflected the authors, and could serve as a passage to help the reader easily “sail” through the winds of life.  Fellowship and Ice cream will follow this session.
